The battle of the sexes escalates into the ultimate Chinese vs. Japanese martial arts showdown, in this Shaw Brothers epic.
Overview: Chinese martial artist Ho Tao is forced into an arranged marriage with a Japanese woman. At first he is reluctant, but after he sees her, his opinion is swayed. But their marriage takes a turn for the worse even as early as the wedding ceremony, as their different cultures clash. Ho Tao soon learns that his beautiful wife is also a master of the Japanese martial arts; and she insists adamantly that Japanese fighting styles are superior to Chinese styles. Her insults and stubbornness quickly wear on Ho Tao, and the couple begin sparring and fighting regularly–Ho Tao’s Chinese styles always prevail.
The fighting continues until the couple become the laughing stock of the town, and their entire household is a shambles. Soon, Ho Tao’s wife leaves the marriage in disgust, when he claims that her stealthy Japanese ninjitsu style–with its sneak attacks and ruthless attempts to kill–are dishonorable and beneath any real fighter with integrity.
Once she’s gone back home to Japan, he sends her a letter inviting her to come back and spar further so that he can prove the superiority of his Chinese kung fu; however, this letter is intercepted by her Japanese martial arts instructor, who takes great offense. He quickly mobilizes the heads of all the local Japanese martial arts schools to travel to China and do battle with Ho Tao to prove the superiorty of the Japanese martial arts.
Once the Japanese martial arts masters arrive in China, Ho Tao has no choice but to fight them all, one per day, to defend his honor and that of his Chinese kung fu. Using various Chinese weapons and fighting styles, Ho Tao keeps his word and battles the Japanese masters of karate, judo, ninjitsu, sai, kendo, one by one in an exhausing and thrilling week-long tournament!
